The Women Studies and Development Centre (WSDC) at the University of Delhi was established in 1987, in response to the University Grants Commission's (UGC) call for addressing women's concerns in higher education. It has been a pioneering force in the field of women's studies and gender research in India. Over the past three decades, WSDC has expanded its programs and activities, achieving recognition as an Advanced Centre of Study by the UGC in 2016. Throughout its existence, WSDC has been nurtured and guided by prominent women professors from various disciplines, each serving as Directors and bringing their unique expertise to the realm of women's studies.
